electronic experimental music
testing since 2015
what's new?
Magicicada is eclectic project of singer and songwriter – Małgorzata Buracka and t dot est – musician, composer and producer. They both are in love with spaces of piano music – its timelessness, depth and variety of sound. Ascetic sound covered by soft and modern electronic pieces is fulfilled by ethereal vocal. This is the background to tell the story about Magicicada.
Magicicada Septendecim is cicada, which 99,5% of life spends under the ground, as a larva. After 17 years it spreads its wings and sings a last song. The song of rebirth and death. The song which rises it up, to the world of freedom and calmness, and then brings it to the opposite pole of the world – full of anxiety, passion and lonely journey.
Hear the song of Magicicada!

bio
Year 2014. Stavanger, Norway. That’s where the idea of an experimental music project called t dot est has been brought to life. Its name can be interpreted as a test or dealing with something. It’s not surprising therefore why the man behind the project prefers anonymity – when others are concentrating on documenting their lives on social media, he is focusing on building a concept of a new album. His music is a mixture of IDM, electronica, ambient with a hint of jazz and classical sounds.
t dot est wants the productions to be like good films and books – musical stories with the beginning and the end. That’s the main reason the works has the topical threads – for example there’s a DYSTOPIAN Thread (albums like BLMRVRSD, DSTPNPLS, FRMTHDSTNT), ANOTN (albums like Project Anton, PA2, re: Anton, A40) and Travel Thread (albums like NORDSTEPS, B in, DOT). Each of those threads is characterized by recording and production technique as well as compositions assumptions. The other important part of those threads are graphics commonly made by well-educated artists from Academy Of Fine Arts.
Results of this hard work are albums and singles released by labels like Onionwave, RUSKA BURSA, Addicted to Music Studios and cooperations with musicians and remixers like Jexus, Susana Jara, Ania Dudek, Jakub Żytecki, Simen Kiil Halvorsen, Julie Hasfjord, Cinar Timur, Szymon Mika, Demsky, maga, Paweł Szamburski, Rafał Dutkiewicz, P.A.F.F, Maro Music, Zeu5, Piotr Figiel and many others.
t dot est creates new projects to show that being faithful to the principles of traditional way of creating music is not against modern technology. The perfect example of it is combining human voice, usually in the form of female opera or folk singing with experimental electronics. That kind of approach is the reason why every album of t dot est has its own, unique sound.

inspired by
t dot est was inspired mostly by the artists combining electronic and acoustic music such as: Ben Lukas Boysen, Kiasmos, Nils Frahm, deadmau5, Olafur Arnalds, but also IDM representatives: Fizzarum, Clapan, Aphex Twin and jazz performers: Esbjorn Svensson Trio, Tord Gustavsen, Iiro Rantala and Helge Lien. Exept from music, t dot est finds inspirations in travels (Nordsteps and DOT album) as well as in story based scenarios (4 albums saga – ANTON) and documentaries ( DISCOVERYPULSE Singles).
Also, the name t dot est can be interpreted straight forward as test, a struggle or as a „tribute to” project by Esbjorn Svensson Trio.

„You don’t need words to tell the story. Music is enough. In over-stimulated world we need to find a minimalism. That’s the method chosen by t dot est, creating his newest album, released by Onionwave. […] The key to understanding his message is dualism – every piece is based on two tempos, which is a reference to nature and technology, reality and dream, tradition and modernity, body and soul.”

„Cracowian t dot est released another album, this time maintained in the atmosphere of darkness and dystopia. „DSTPNPLS” is – as he says – the answer for mood of 2021.”

„t dot est on his first solo album, explores May days of lockdown and transform them into the piano sounds, but not only. […].
„BLMRVRSD” is perfect to listening during alone walk. I recommend to listen it in order, but even more non-chronogical. That’s when narration suprise you a lot.”

„… t dot est – enigmatic producer from Cracow, who connects in his music genres like ambient, IDM, folk. His newest album is „BLMRVRSD”, released at the end of December. It’s worth to be up to date with his work – it’s a specific journey to melanholic world of sounds.”

„t dot est is a Cracowian project, which has been started in Stavanger in 2014. In principle, it experiments with genres like IDM, ambient, folk and jazz. […] t dot est is inspired mainly by artists, who connect electronic and acoustic music, IDM and jazz. […] Beyond music inspirations, he refers to travels (“Nordsteps”, “DOT”), feature films (saga of four albums „ANTON”) and nature („BLMRVRSD”, cycle of singles „DISCOVERY PULSE”).
Frequent element of his compositions is human voice, mainly as opera or folk singing („Hulaty”, „Project ANTON” – featuring Sussane Jara, Julie Hasfjord, Olga Ostrowska and Kliros choir). It appears also in „Kurpiowskie”, which is a remix of Lemko and Kurpie songs. On the other hand, „DISCOVERY PULSE” featuring Amandli from Zimbabwe i Daniela Mwangalalo from Kongo contains African chants.”
